"I support - women, men and children from all backgrounds, all ages and walks of life who have concerns and difficulties they wish to explore.

I am experienced in working with a broad range of issues and concerns –

My training and experience in therapeutic care over the past 30 years has helped me to successfully support clients with a broad range of concerns and life challenges.

I have a keen interest in well-being, self development and one's ability to heal the self. I have explored how our beliefs and behaviour can be affected by previous life experiences, some beliefs about ourselves and the world around us may be false beliefs that we unconsciously internalised during childhood or through traumatic life events. I have learnt that, with the right support and knowledge we can learn to change the beliefs and behaviours that may no longer serve our best interest and that our relationship to self, mind, body and nature are the greatest source of our own healing process and self development.

I was drawn into counselling as a natural progression of my own self development and healing process, which serves me to enable others on their journey to feeling well. I am interested in the human capacity for personal change and development, which we all possess, and can tap into when offered appropriate support. I believe we can heal and make positive changes relatively quickly once we engage with what within us is calling for our attention

At various stages of my life I have found it helpful to seek support through counselling, enabling me to explore my thoughts, feeling, beliefs and how they are impacting upon my wellbeing and relationships. The stresses and strains of modern life, feelings of aloneness and isolation, carrying heavy burdens and responsibilities, trauma, grief, shame and guilt, all take their toll, left unattended, they can result in ill health and over load - I appreciate the support and change that can occur when we reach out to share and explore our concerns with a trusted and non biased trained person.

I have travelled extensively and lived and worked in many countries including Central and South America, West Africa and the Caribbean. I have been privileged to study with several traditional teachers and healing practices. I have a great interest in racial equality and cultural studies, which I have gained greater knowledge of through both life experience and further academic study. I have worked with many 'minority' groups and vulnerable individuals, which include a broad range diverse individuals including refugee's. I have also worked alongside vulnerable young adults and women, people with mental health concerns, substance misuse and other related issues.

Counselling Services

FIRST CONSULTATION

Our first encounter will be via a telephone,

there I can give you information about the types of counselling I offer and you can tell me a something about yourself and what you would like to gain from counselling.

If after this you decide you would like to continue, we can then book our first counselling session. At the end of our first meeting, if you would like to book more sessions with me, we can decide together what might be helpful for.

I can offer face to face counselling where we will meet in a private room and talk together. Alternatively I also offer telephone counselling or a walk and talk counselling service, where we will quite literally talk whilst walking in nature.

COUNSELLING SESSION

Generally a counselling session lasts for one hour. After the initial session it is sometimes useful to start with a block of 6 sessions, after which we can review to see how you are progressing and what may now be beneficial for you. There is no specific number of sessions that you have to sign up for. Some people feel able to support themselves again after only a few sessions, while others might want longer. How long we might work together is entirely dependent on what you feel you need and is something that we will decide together.

I offer a safe and confidential counselling services in Bristol and potentially I can provide the extra support you need, in person or on the telephone. Feel free to call me to talk about the kind of counselling that might work best for you.

WALK AND TALK

Some people find the thought of face to face counselling indoors, confined to a room, a daunting or overwhelming prospect. Others may have tried counselling in conventional environments but found it uncomfortable or too intense. If this resonates with you then Walk and Talk Sessions may be helpful alternative. Gentle exercise outside in a pleasant environment with plants and wildlife, fresh air and natural light, can be very therapeutic. Sometimes referred to as ‘Green Therapy’
BLOCK BOOKINGS

Cost of a one hour session is £40, I also offer a sliding scale and low cost option for people who are on a low income. I can also offer a discount for a block of 6 or more sessions when they are paid for in advance.

TELEPHONE COUNSELLING

I also offer  counselling by telephone and Skype throughout the UK. Therapy by telephone and Skype is not a poor alternative to seeing someone face to face - evaluation shows that it can be every bit as effective. It can be an effective and convenient way of getting the help you need. In this busy world in which we live, attending a counselling appointment may be difficult. Telephone counselling can be useful alternative for people who find it difficult to get out the house or for any other reason are unable to physically attend sessions. These will also be one hour per session and abide by the same ethical and moral principles.
